Хороший исторический очерк есть в William Odom, The collapse of the Soviet military / New Haven: Yale University Press, 2000 (с.286-292). Еще кое-что в Ellen Jones, Red Army and society: a sociology of the Soviet military / Boston: Allen & Unwin, 1985.
