Главный урок - что Новая Гвинея согласилась на проведение референдума и что он был таки проведен. И этот урок сам по себе очень многим было бы полезно усвоить.

Судан в итоге тоже согласился, а Эфиопия отпустила Эритрею и без референдума.

я ожидаю всяких насильственных действий и последствий.
В Папуа кровь льется легко.
Хотя дело конечно облегчается тем, что Бугенвиль - остров, его легко оборонять и изолировать, если австралийцам и ООН это придет в голову.
Огородились - и все.

Какие насильственные действия, с чьей стороны? Вопрос уже на 99 процентов можно считать закрытым. Точнее, на 100 процентов.

Fortescue, the world’s fourth-biggest iron ore producer, controlled by Australian billionaire Andrew Forrest, is among half a dozen miners building relationships with landowners and politicians who could hold the key to securing mining leases. Chinese companies are also active on the island, which analysts warn could become a new front in an intensifying battle for influence in the Pacific.

Это они, что называется, "попали пальцем в небо". Главное, я же в предыдущем постинге про Бугенвиль так прямо и написал:

Дальше на острове были обнаружены большие залежи меди, их начали разрабатывать, работники стали приезжать из собственно Новой Гвинеи, начался затяжной, сложный и запутанный конфликт, с блокадами, наступлениями, оступлениями, попытками привлечь наемников (что по какой-то загадочной причине принято считать чем-то особенно ужасным и недопустимым) и т.д. - см. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bougainville_Civil_War

Шахта в итоге была закрыта, зато число жертв оценивается тысячами, если не десятками тысяч.
