Thank you for your e-mail request. The quote by Senator Harry S. Truman appeared on page 7, column 8 of the June 24, 1941 issue of the New York Times. When asked by a reporter for his reaction to the Germans invading Russia, he replied:
"If we see that Germany is winning we ought to help Russia, and if Russia is winning we ought to help Germany, and that way let them kill as many as possible, although I don't want to see Hitler victorious under any circumstances."

Привез в 1944 году 1000 евреев и засунул их в концентрационный лагерь (ну, конечно, они и тому были рады - не Дахау, ясное дело) в Fort Ontario, Oswego, New York. Планировал отправить во свояси после войны. Конечно, не Рауль Валленберг, но и на том спасибо. В Декабре 1945 Труман их освободил и предложил остаться.
